KCC Academy is a nonprofit Chicago South Side organization transforming lives through education, workforce development, mentorship, and community violence intervention Chicago. We provide underserved residents with direct access to trade training, leadership development, and career readiness programs that create sustainable futures.

Founded by Davona Hawkins, nonprofit Chicago leader and mother of three, KCC Academy was built on the belief that every South Side resident deserves a real chance at success. Our programs are hands-on, evidence-based, and designed around the real challenges our community faces every day.

Programs Designed to Transform Chicago Communities

At KCC Academy, every program is built around one goal: breaking cycles of poverty and violence on Chicago’s South Side. Our four core services create pathways to economic independence, personal growth, and community safety.

Trade & Employment Training

Economic opportunity is one of the most powerful tools for violence prevention. KCC Academy provides hands-on trade and employment training across multiple in-demand fields, giving South Side residents the skills needed to secure stable, well-paying careers. We partner with local businesses to connect participants directly to job opportunities.

Violence Prevention & Community Outreach

Our violence intervention program Chicago works directly with individuals, families, and communities impacted by violence. Through street outreach Chicago South Side, trauma-informed case management, and peacekeeping initiatives, we address the root causes of violence and provide real alternatives that uplift and empower residents.

Support for Single Mothers & Justice-Impacted Individuals

KCC Academy provides wraparound support specifically designed for single mothers and justice-impacted individuals who face the highest barriers to economic independence. Through targeted job training, financial literacy, and access to community resources, we help our most vulnerable residents rebuild their lives and achieve lasting stability.

Youth Development & Civic Engagement

KCC Academy’s youth development program engages young people ages 11 to 21 through the KCC Young Leaders initiative. Participants receive civic engagement training, mentorship, leadership workshops, and community project opportunities with the chance to earn up to $900 in stipends. We invest in the next generation of community empowerment South Side Chicago leaders.

Building Skills That Drive Economic Growth in Chicago

Trade training creates lasting economic change on Chicago’s South Side by equipping residents with in-demand skills that local employers are actively seeking. As a violence prevention nonprofit Chicago, KCC Academy understands that economic opportunity and community safety go hand in hand. When residents have access to stable careers, entire neighborhoods transform.

Many employers across Chicago report difficulty finding qualified workers with the right trade skills. KCC Academy closes this skills gap by providing KCC Academy Chicago participants with construction-specific and foundational workforce training tailored to the needs of the local economy creating a more vibrant and sustainable South Side community.

Leadership Development & Entrepreneurial Training

KCC Academy trains every participant to become a confident leader and active contributor to their community. Leadership development empowers individuals across Chicago’s South Side to take ownership of their future, advocate for their families, and create economic opportunities where they live.

Through entrepreneurship training, financial literacy, and career coaching, we equip at-risk groups with the tools to secure better-paying jobs and achieve financial stability. Our goal is to break cycles of poverty through education, mentorship, and the kind of community empowerment South Side Chicago that creates generational change.

I’m a mother of three Black boys. Growing up, I didn’t have much influence or anyone to mentor or guide me. I promised myself that when I achieved success, I would create programs to help mentor and support youth, women, and residents in need. Through our violence prevention and trade training programs, not only will we give you the support you need but the resources to achieve goals you didn’t even know were within reach.
